Tokyo — Day One: The Neon Labyrinth
Arrival in Shinjuku and the search for the perfect ramen.
Tokyo is overwhelming in the best way possible. From the moment I stepped off the Narita Express at Shinjuku Station, the scale of everything hit me.
The First Impression
It’s not just the buildings; it’s the density. Every square meter of space is utilized. Vending machines tucked into corners, tiny bars stacked vertically in narrow buildings, and a sea of people moving with surgical precision.
The Mission: Ramen
After dropping my bags, I headed straight for Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane). The smell of grilled yakitori and simmering broth is intoxicating. I found a tiny shop with just six seats.
The ramen was a simple Shoyu base, but the depth of flavor was unlike anything I’ve had before. The noodles had that perfect “snap”.
Stay tuned for Part 2 where we head to the fish market!
